Christmas Shipping Deadlines 2026, Sorted by Who You Are Posting To
By Admin · October 20, 2026
Openly: affiliate links may sit on this page and we could earn from them. Every date below is quoted from the carriers' own published 2026 holiday schedules. Those schedules are the carriers' recommendations rather than guarantees, one carrier states its chart may change, and the day counts and comparisons are our own arithmetic.
Every other version of this list is sorted by carrier. That is useless. You do not pick a carrier and then wonder who to post to, you start with a person and work back to the last day to ship.
So these Christmas shipping deadlines 2026 are sorted by who is receiving the parcel, and that reordering exposes one date almost nobody mentions in time.

Military post at ground rates closes first, and it closes in about two weeks.
Look at the top row. It is the only one that is urgent. If you are posting to a service address overseas at the cheapest rate, your deadline is 4 November, which is 51 days before Christmas and roughly two weeks from now.
Everyone else has months. That is why this date gets missed every single year, because the articles reminding people about shipping cutoffs land in mid December when that particular door closed six weeks earlier.
Military Addresses: The Urgent One

43 days |
4 November for ground rates, 43 days earlier than the civilian equivalent.
USPS lists Wednesday 4 November as the last day to send Ground Advantage to all AE ZIP codes, and because the civilian ground deadline sits on 17 December, military parcels at that rate close a full 43 days earlier than the equivalent parcel going to an address inside the country.
Miss it and you have two fallbacks. First-Class Mail and Priority Mail to those addresses both run until Wednesday 9 December, with the last day to ship pushed back five weeks, and Priority Mail Express Military Service extends to Wednesday 16 December for most AE ZIPs.
Two cautions straight from the published notes. That Express military service is not available for AE ZIP 093 at all, and it is only offered at selected post offices, so ring yours before making the trip.

Paying for Express buys you |
Seven extra days |
9 December for standard services, 16 December if you pay for Express.
International is simpler than people expect, and one date covers almost everything. First-Class Package International and Priority Mail International both close on Wednesday 9 December for destinations including Europe, Canada, Mexico, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Africa and the Middle East.
Priority Mail Express International runs a week longer, to Wednesday 16 December. So paying for the premium service buys you seven extra days, which is the best value upgrade on this entire page.
Customs forms and local delivery conditions sit outside the carrier's control, so treat these as the latest sensible date rather than a safe one.

Ground and First-Class close 17 December, Express on the 19th.
The domestic set is tight. For the lower 48 states, USPS lists Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail at Thursday 17 December, Priority Mail at Friday 18 December and Priority Mail Express at Saturday 19 December, which puts the entire cheap to premium ladder inside a single working week.
Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US territories follow the same dates for the mail services, but USPS gives no single ground date for them and warns of transit times of ten days or more on some routes. Check the specific route rather than assuming.
One wording difference worth noticing. The USPS schedule is framed around delivery by 25 December, while both private carriers publish theirs for delivery by 24 December, so the two sets of dates are not quite measuring the same finish line.

Ground Economy closes 15 December, SameDay runs to Christmas Eve.
FedEx publishes a full ladder for delivery by 24 December. Ground Economy closes on Tuesday 15 December, which is the earliest domestic deadline of any service on this page.
Ground itself varies by transit length, with five day routes closing Thursday 17 December, three day routes Monday 21 December and one day routes Wednesday 23 December. Express Saver matches the 21st, 2Day the 22nd, overnight services the 23rd, and SameDay runs right up to Thursday 24 December.
FedEx states its own chart is subject to change, which we are repeating rather than hiding.

3 Day Select on the 21st, Next Day Air on the 23rd, and nothing useful on the 24th.
UPS publishes 3 Day Select at Monday 21 December, 2nd Day Air at Tuesday 22 December and Next Day Air at Wednesday 23 December for delivery by the 24th. Ground has no single date because it depends entirely on how many transit days your route takes.
The important detail is what happens if you miss it. A Next Day Air parcel collected on 24 December does not arrive on Christmas Eve, it arrives on Monday 28 December. Christmas Eve is a collection day, not a delivery day, for that service.
UPS does run Air and international Air deliveries on Saturday 26 December, which is useful to know but is not Christmas.

The lesson |
Posting early beats paying more |
Upgrading USPS Ground to Express buys two days. Posting a week earlier is free.
Here is the arithmetic that should change behaviour. It is ours, not anyone's marketing.
Upgrading from USPS Ground Advantage to Priority Mail buys one extra day. Upgrading all the way to Priority Mail Express buys two. For that you pay a premium on every parcel in the pile.
The widest span available is FedEx, where moving from Ground Economy on the 15th to SameDay on the 24th buys nine days, and the cost of that upgrade is not small either.
Now compare that with the free option. Posting a week earlier costs nothing and buys seven days. That is the whole lesson of this page.
-
Write the military date in your calendar today
-
Group international parcels into one trip before 9 December
-
Order online gifts by mid December, not late December
-
Keep receipts and tracking for anything time critical
The Dates Nobody Has Published Yet
One honest gap, and we would rather name it than paper over it. The carriers have published their 2026 schedules, but the big online retailers generally announce their own order cutoffs in December, and at the time of writing those were not out.
Retailer cutoffs are usually later than carrier deadlines, because they hold stock close to the customer and use their own networks. That is exactly why guessing them is risky, and why we are not going to print a number we cannot source.
The safe approach is to treat the carrier dates as your planning dates and check the retailer's own shipping page at checkout.
The Plan
|
Do this |
By when |
|---|---|
|
Military parcels at ground rates |
4 November, this is the urgent one |
|
Everything international |
9 December |
|
Order online gifts |
Before the 15th, not the 20th |
|
Domestic post at cheap rates |
17 December |
|
Panic options |
21 to 24 December, at a price |
Five dates, in the order they arrive.
Work backwards from the recipient. Most of the stress disappears. The only genuinely tight date is already upon us, and it affects the people furthest from home.

The Christmas shipping deadlines 2026 that actually matter are five dates, not fifty. Military parcels at ground rates close on 4 November, which is 43 days before the civilian ground deadline and the one date worth acting on this week. Everything international closes 9 December on standard services, or 16 December if you pay for Express. Domestic USPS ground and First-Class close 17 December, with Priority on the 18th and Express on the 19th. The last realistic domestic day is 23 December through overnight air, and after that only a same day courier will work. Remember that paying for the fastest USPS service buys two days while posting a week early buys seven and costs nothing.
FAQs
What is the last day to ship for Christmas 2026?
For USPS within the lower 48, Saturday 19 December on Priority Mail Express. For overnight air with the private carriers, Wednesday 23 December. A same day courier on 24 December is the only thing after that.
When is the military shipping deadline?
Wednesday 4 November for USPS Ground Advantage to AE ZIP codes, then 9 December for First-Class and Priority Mail, and 16 December for Express Military Service to most AE ZIPs.
When should I post internationally?
Wednesday 9 December for First-Class Package International and Priority Mail International, or Wednesday 16 December if you use Priority Mail Express International.
Is USPS or FedEx the later deadline?
FedEx, because SameDay runs to 24 December against 19 December for the latest USPS service. The published USPS dates target delivery by 25 December, while FedEx and UPS target 24 December.
What happens if I ship on Christmas Eve?
With UPS Next Day Air, a parcel collected on 24 December arrives on 28 December. Only a same day service delivers on Christmas Eve itself.
When do Amazon and other retailers cut off?
Those had not been published when this was written. Retailer cutoffs are usually later than carrier deadlines, so check the retailer's own shipping page at checkout.
Every date on this page is quoted from the carriers' own published 2026 holiday schedules at the time of writing. Those schedules are recommendations for on time arrival rather than guarantees, one carrier explicitly states its chart is subject to change, and weather, volume, customs and local conditions can all delay a parcel that was posted on time. The USPS schedule is published for delivery by 25 December while the two private carriers publish theirs for delivery by 24 December, so the two sets are not measuring an identical finish line, and we have reported that difference rather than flattening it. Some services carry restrictions we have noted, including an Express military option that is unavailable to one AE ZIP code and offered only at selected post offices, and no single published ground date for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US territories or for one carrier's ground network. Major online retailers had not published their own order cutoffs when this was written, so none are quoted here. The day counts, the 43 day gap, the extra days bought by each upgrade and all other comparisons are our own arithmetic. Confirm dates on the carrier's own page before relying on them.
